Sometimes, though, there is too much "show don't tell" and it feels as if the writer is trying too hard and we are as readers, walking through jello.loverofwordshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05763349886822924646noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5929885462293344093.post-22161114195579784772014-06-08T18:39:29.531-07:002014-06-08T18:39:29.531-07:00I ran a workshop on opening lines once - all your ...I ran a workshop on opening lines once - all your points are excellent ones. And I loved these examples too! It's amazing how tricky (as a writer) these lines can be to nail and how compelling (as readers) we find them.Nicolehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10680066584646789184noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5929885462293344093.post-39884638324376086042014-06-07T02:35:49.298-07:002014-06-07T02:35:49.298-07:00Those are some GREAT opening lines!

It usually takes me about five pages before I know a story is going to be for me. After I've read a novel, though, that's when I'll go back and re-read the opening to see how started. And, yeah, a really great first line will resonate strongly and make so much sense when you look at it in retrospect. Wish I could master writing them. :) Luanne G.
