Book Review: EXPLOSIVE EIGHTEEN

Explosive Eighteen (Stephanie Plum, #18)Explosive Eighteen by Janet Evanovich

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I can't help it ... I just LOVE Janet Evanovich!

Sure, Stephanie Plum is predictable; and sure, the plots aren't rocket science; but holy smokes ... if you can make me laugh out loud on one page and drop my jaw on another while reading your book ... well then, I guess I love you.

No, this wasn't my favorite Plum book, but I did enjoy it. It made me laugh, and it was a fun easy-to-read-escape-for-awhile book.

Here are the three reasons this book did not earn five stars from me:

1. I don't want Stephanie sleeping with two different guys. PICK ONE!

2. I can handle a few cuss words ... but there were a lot more than that in this book!

3. Rats. I don't really like reading about RATS! YIKES!! Eek.

I am REALLY looking forward to the first movie coming out this month, and I hope more movies with Stephanie Plum will follow! (And, I'm super happy with the PG-13 rating (not R)! YAY!)

  4. Sometimes, predictability is just right. I agree on the cussin' and the sleepin'. I've long wanted her to pick one guy - but which one? Can't decide.

  5. I've never read any of the Stephanie Plum novels--the comment about her sleeping with more than one guy kinda puts me off, though. :P

I'm reading Mastiff by Tamora Pierce right now.

  6. Mary and I have read all of the Stephanie Plum books as soon as they come out, and this one was a little weak in comparison. She generally releases her books in the spring and evidently felt that she had enough material for a second book this year; I think this one could have used a few more months of edits.

  7. I'm reading the Scorpio Races which is good but I've been so tired at night it's taking me a long time to read it!

  8. Hi Margo, Like a few of your other commentees I've also never read any of Stephanie Plum's books but to tell the truth I agree with the reasons you deducted stars from a perfect five. Swearing is so cheap and her heroine sleeping with two guys would force me to abandon the book altogether at the first mention of it, Yuck!
Rats, well I don't know the context so cannot comment, rats don't freak me out.
A good review, could pique the interest of some readers.
God bless and keep you, Geoff.

  9. I have read her books and they are okay for light beach reading, but the series is becoming tiresome. I am, however looking forward to the movie.

  10. I love Janet. This series makes me laugh out loud, but I think it is time she chooses one dude. I didn't envision Katherine Heigl as Stephanie, so the movie will be interesting.

  11. I haven't read any of these yet. One day, when there are 26 hours in a day ...

  12. I haven't read a single one of her books yet! I do have some on my TBR list though!

Good thing I don't mention all the rats I encounter in my life on my blog, I suppose ;) It's a consequence of living with two hungry cats!
