Writer CEO One-Day Workshop in Boise, Idaho

When Colleen M. Story (Author, Speaker, Health & Wellness Writer) asked me to share information about her upcoming workshop - I said, "Of course!" Because if you've ever visited her site Writing and Wellness, you already know she shares a wealth of information!

Discover the Secrets of a Successful Author Business at the New Writer CEO One-Day Workshop!

Writer CEO, a website dedicated to working writers and authors, is holding a one-day writing workshop on September 14, 2019, in downtown Boise, Idaho.

In one action-packed day, writers will learn effective book-marketing strategies and author businesses branding techniques. They’ll also discover:

· tips for avoiding burnout and overwhelm

· new processes for determining when to take important business risks

· how to better manage cash flow

· strength-based approaches to building a thriving author platform

· mindsets necessary for a professional author

· how to stabilize your business in a fluctuating industry

The event will feature workshops, giveaways, and networking opportunities. Writers of all levels and genres are invited, though the workshop will be most useful for those interested in getting their work noticed, boosting sales, enhancing organization, improving self-management, and supercharging their results.

Instructors Colleen M. Story and Donna Cook are both professional writers who bring to the table decades of experience in writing and writing-related businesses. After overcoming their own challenges in publishing and marketing, they wanted to share what they’ve learned with other authors, in the hopes of making their journeys a little easier.

“I spent years floundering around unsure how to get my writing business off the ground,” Story said. “I was doing well writing for others, but I wanted to create a business with my own projects, and there was little information available to help me do that. In this workshop, Donna and I won’t be teaching writers how to write—we’ll be helping them get their writing noticed, improve their marketing, find more readers and/or clients, and become the true creative business owners they need to be to succeed in this industry.”

“All I ever wanted to do is write,” Cook added, “but I soon realized I needed to master the business side of what I was doing if I wanted my writing to sell. That meant learning how to market in a way that worked for me, setting up systems that would help me streamline the tasks associated with marketing and publishing, and discovering the mindsets I needed to improve my chances of success. I’m eager to share what I’ve learned with other writers, because I know they make a huge difference.”

The workshop takes place on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Hampton Inn & Suites in downtown Boise, followed by an optional post-workshop gathering over cocktails. The cost is $75 per person. For more information or to sign up now, see the Writer CEO workshop page.

Teen B-Fest at Barnes & Noble

On September 23, 2017, I had the pleasure of teaching a class about writing at the Barnes & Noble in Boise, Idaho, and one of the best parts was having a friend from high school stop by. I hadn't seen her in all the years since high school, and she even brought pictures from back in the day. That was awesome - such a treat! After the writing workshop, I participated in a book signing with other local authors. Barnes & Noble has been a great supporter of authors, writers, and readers.

If you are interested in having me come and speak to your group, feel free to email me at margokelly1 @ outlook . com - (without the spaces included).

Building Blocks of Storytelling with Margo Kelly & Joshua Bellin

This weekend, I had the pleasure of teaching a writing workshop for the Idaho Writers Guild with author Joshua David Bellin. We had a fabulous time talking about building better worlds, better characters, and better suspense. The writers in attendance had valuable ideas to share, and we left feeling energized to go home and write better stories! Here are some pictures from the event:
