TODAY is the BIG day!

Well, my husband and I arrived home late last night from one last summer trip.

We (just he and I) went camping for four days to celebrate our 23rd wedding anniversary. Last year was the first time we took a camping trip by ourselves ... and we LOVED it! And ... the kids didn't die while we were gone, so we thought we'd try it again this year.  We were thrilled to arrive home and see that the house was still intact and the kids survived without our parental nagging.

Now, this morning the kids are all off to their first day of school, my husband is at work, the dogs are playing ... and ... I am supposed to find my mojo and get back to my manuscript.

Except things keep distracting me ... like:
1. the laundry
2. the dirty dishes
3. the bills
4. the weather forecast (seriously, supposed to be 98 degrees today ... YIKES!)
5. the unanswered emails
6. the blackberries that need to be picked AND eaten
7. and on and on and on

I need to focus, focus, focus.

What helps you get into the zone and focus on your writing?

  2. Oh, fresh blackberries? I'd be distracted too!

  3. If I wasn't so far away, I'd help you with picking and eating blackberries!

Dunno about the writing. As bad as it sounds, sometimes, I have to force myself to get back to writing and editing.

  4. Making myself sit down and just do it usually puts me into focus- at least with homework. Good luck!

  5. Ah, the ever elusive focus. It is especially hard upon returning from a trip. Hmmm...if I can listen to some good, atmospheric music, my creative juices start flowing and at least I get some ideas. I may not build my word count, but I do jot down some fascinating rabbit trails :)

    Good luck!

  7. Fresh blackberries! My blacberry and raspberry and blueberry bushes are not putting out. I have three apple trees. One tree has had 2 green apples right next to each other for weeks. Went to remove them, one destroyed by bugs. Hey, 3 apple trees one stinkin' apple. But I did well with my 2 peach trees and 2 pear trees. Nectarines? maybe next year.
Dishes and laundry. My BW, the Education Tipster went to jury duty today. I blitzed the laundry, did the dishes while the machine whirled. While the washed dishes were draining dry, I vacuumed the floors and carpets (not the bedroom). Then I mopped the kitchen floor with detergent, water and pine oil. Then rinse mopped it. Then hung the laundry on the line.

Oh yeah, I'm writing an article, researching and formulating it.

I did all that icky housework in 2 hours. My spouse came home from the courthouse after 4 hours (was not selected) and marvelled at the "sparkling kitchen"

I do not mean to brag, but when you blitz it (get totally involved and concentrate on the task at hand) it is not difficult to get the chore work out of the way.
