  1. Not sure I agree. I used to read Agatha Christie, but it wasn't vitally important - just fun.

  2. Hi Belle! I think the quote refers to the characters of the story. So, when writing a story, if it's not vitally important to "everyone" (meaning the characters) involved ... then either some of those characters need to be cut or given a different motivation -- or the plot needs to be adjusted.

    But you are absolutely right, when READING a story, the story itself does not need to be important to EVERYONE!! :-)
