Inner Conflict

"Whatever drives the main character ... make sure it is an inner conflict as powerful as any outer conflict could hope to be: urgent, unavoidable and full of an emotional appeal that anyone can feel" - - Donald Maass (Writing the Breakout Novel, p. 172).

  1. That's the trick, right? Making the conflict urgent enough? In my HF WIP, my orphaned MC is consumed about finding his next job AND trying to escape an Indenture claim by an evil canaler who might be the death of him.

  2. I love Donald Maass' advice! The WtBN workbook is a great writing tool.

  3. Curiosity drives my main character. That and blind allegiance.

  4. A conflicted motherhood, I think.
