Book Review: TO ALL THE BOYS I'VE LOVED BEFORE

To All the Boys I've Loved Before (To All the Boys I've Loved Before, #1)To All the Boys I've Loved Before by Jenny Han

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed this book! It's the first one I've read by author Jenny Han, and now I'm a fan! The writing was excellent, the plotting was excellent, and the character development was excellent.

The story is about a teenage girl who writes love letters to the boys she really likes, but she never sends the letters. It's more of a process for herself. But then one day ... someone mails the letters to the boys. Ack! Watching how she handles the humiliating situation unfold was so entertaining and engaging. I wanted to read faster to find out what was going to happen!

Here are a couple of my favorite lines:

"At one point I try to let go of his hand, because mine is starting to feel sweaty, but he tightens his grip. ... I'm sure Genevieve's hands are never sweaty. She could probably hold hands for days without getting overheated." (page 112)

"When someone's been gone a long time, at first you save up all the things you want to tell them. You try to keep track of everything in your head. But it's like trying to hold on to a fistful of sand: all the little bits slip out of your hands, and then you're just clutching air and grit. That's why you can't save it all up like that." (page 294)

I loved reading this story. And it was the kind where I could hardly wait to find out how it ended, but then when it did end, I was sad because I wanted more.

  1. I would be so mortified if someone mailed out any secret notes I'd written as a teen! What a fun premise for a story. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the book.
