#IWSG: Make Friends

It can be a tough world out there, and having friends will make the journey easier, brighter, and happier.

It's the first Wednesday of the month, which means it's time for Insecure Writer's Support Group! One of the things the group advocates is:

"Offer a word of encouragement for others who are struggling."

Sometimes the publishing world can seem overwhelming, especially if rejections are filling your inbox. Rejection is a part of the process, but dejection is a choice. If you have friends in the trenches with you, the journey is so much better. And I mean WRITER friends. People who are pursuing similar goals as you are. Only writers understand what it's like to get multiple rejections in one day. Only writers understand changing a verb in a sentence fifteen times only to revert it back to the original verb.

So make friends. How? Be friendly on social media, visit blogs, leave comments, ask to swap chapters for critiques. Reach out to other writers, and before you know it, you'll have writer friends. You can also join local writing groups, attend retreats, and participate in conferences. Network and connect with people. Writing is a very solitary activity, but friends are essential for various times - especially when you need a word of encouragement.

The Insecure Writer's Support Group is an excellent place to start. Join the group. Visit the blogs. Make friends.

:)

Happy writing.

  2. Love this - it should become the writer's mantra - Rejection is a part of the process, but dejection is a choice.
